Alumni Picnic

By: Br. Jordan Dorwart

On June 14, 2009, the annual Triangle Alumni Picnic was held. This year the venue changed; rather than holding the event at George Rogers Clark Park it was held at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. Even though the location of the event was farther from campus, the turnout was great. Many Actives were in attendance as well as several Alumni, along with their families.

This event gave the Active Chapter a chance to meet the Alumni and their families. It was a day of catching up, a day away from work, a day away from classes, and a Brotherhood event between the new and the old. The picnic was a chance for the Alumni to not only see the new faces and leaders of our Fraternity, but to revive their feeling of Brotherhood.

The weather started off sunny and warm with the grill burning and Actives and Alumni playing sports and games like washers, corn-hole, and just tossing around the pigskin. Even innocent bystanders weren't able to get away from our fun when Br. Mike Schoen was playing with a soccer ball and hit a passing bystander (no long term injuries of course). Even though the weather took a slight turn for the worst with a steady down pour for a short time, we moved the tables under the trees and kept on having fun. Some Brothers even took part in a food fight (probably one of the dishes of an Active with less than average culinary ability). This event is always fun for those that attend and gives everyone a chance to relax.

On behalf of the Active Chapter, I would like to thank all Alumni who attended, along with their families. I would also like to thank the Alumni Board for providing the food, for organizing the event, and for providing the Active Chapter a chance to meet each of you. A special thanks to Br. Jeremy Coyle who manned the grill for the event. See you at the next Alumni Picnic, but hopefully we will all meet again before then.
